After delay, mixed-use project near Barton Creek mall to break ground Saturday, Feb. 20, 2016 - Shonda Novak, American-Statesman Staff A project announced nearly six years ago for a high-profile site across from Barton Creek Square mall in Southwest Austin is moving forward at last. Three local developers have teamed with Austin-based Cypress Real Estate Advisors to build apartments, luxury townhomes and an office building at Walsh Tarlton Lane and Capital of Texas Highway (Loop 360). The 16-acre site formerly housed a Cinemark theater. Some nearby residents had opposed Cypress’ initial plans for more than 200 condominiums and townhomes, along with office and retail space, saying the project was too big and would increase traffic along Walsh Tarlton, where children walk to Hill Country Middle School and Cedar Creek Elementary.
